Create Your Future

Peter Drucker famously said that: “The best way to predict the future is to create it”.

And seeing it was recently National Vision Board Day; it prompted me to remind you of the importance of creating your future.  It doesn’t need to be a complicated exercise - in fact it’s FUN!

Most people never create a Life Plan, some have a Bucket List at best, so business owners never align their business goals to what they really want in life.

In fact, many don’t really know what they want...

Some will have a plan in their heads, but never commit it to paper, share it, or even have it up visually so it’s never there in front of them as a constant reminder every day to focus and prioritise.

It’s our experience that family businesses/partnerships don’t ever have this discussion until it’s too late, so as a business grows and opportunities arise, the partners/family members have disagreements because they want different things out of life – and therefore out of the business.

This is why the first step of our 9 Step Fix Build Sell Framework focuses on helping you understand:

  • What you want, and

  • What you're prepared to do, to get it.

One key action in this Step is to create a Visual Vision Board of your Life Plan of your next 5/10/15+ years.

We do ours annually with our kids; its theme based, is hung up on the walls, and it gives us a target and a focus every single day.

If you’ve not done this – regardless of how long you’ve been running your business for – then we strongly urge you to do this (if you need any help, you know where we are).

We’ll leave you with this (if you’re familiar with Back to the Future Part II then you’ll recognise the concept!):

"Imagine meeting your successful-self, 5 years from now, and ‘future you’ gave you a Business Almanac containing everything you need to do for the next 5 years to achieve that success..."

Imagine how that would feel and what it would mean to your business and your life...
