Ready?
I recently came across this quote by Hugh Laurie:
“It's a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you're ready. I have this feeling now that actually no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only now. And you may as well do it now. Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any.”
I love working with business owners; they’re enthusiastic, ambitious, often have a higher purpose, strive to challenge the status quo, and want to make an impact.
But there’s ONE difference between those business owners that achieve success (whatever success looks like for them) and those that don’t...
And it’s being Ready.
Too many business owners spend hours procrastinating, or perfecting things, or get paralysis by analysis. And as such, that marketing flyer never gets out the door. That decision that needs making, never gets made. That report for the accountants never gets finished...
This quote is a reminder of the importance of working out what is holding you back, taking action, and breaking through the fear, barriers or excuses.
That marketing flyer may not be “perfect” but it will be ready to send out to start generating awareness and engagement; getting it out there will always have more chance of success than it sitting on your desk.
That decision may be a scary and uncomfortable one, but it’s better than no decision at all.
If you always wait, you may lose the opportunity. And you will always lose time.
This week, block out 90 minutes to work out why those things that are still on the list, are still there. Then either Eliminate, Simplify, Automate or Delegate.
Because as Hugh says, “Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any.”
