Time Is All We Have
I came across this quote the other day:
“And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.”
The article debated how it’s mis-attributed to Abraham Lincoln and who should claim the origination. Whoever it was, it’s a phrase that rings true, particularly so for our family this month, as tomorrow marks what should have been our daughter Louise’s 15th birthday.
The meaning of the phrase is pretty clear: it’s not about how long we have on this planet, it’s about how active and engaged we are whilst we’re alive.
So today, I want to take a step-back to reflect on my personal why, and to thank you all for supporting our book I don’t work Fridays, our business, and our charity events and partnerships.
We donate every single penny from book sales to the charity Sands – who helped us, our friends, and family, get through the darkest of days, and who continue to help bereaved parents.
And we set-up our Advocate’s Advocate Referral Scheme some years back, where we donate £300 to Sands for every successful referral we get.
To date, on our JustGiving page alone, we’ve raised £15,801 through kind acts and various fundraisers.
Last year, we held out inaugural 4x4 Charity Challenge where the two community clubs we sponsor – Camberley Town Your Football Club and Yateley Silverbacks Basketball Club – played one another in a variety of sports. Not only did we have over 80 children participate, but the family fun day also raised £6,000, with £3,000 going to Farnborough Sands, and £1,500 to each club. We cannot wait for this year’s event!
As they say, time is all we have.
So, thanks for supporting the above and helping make an impact, and please do take time out to reflect on your personal why, and the impact you’re having (or could be having).
BW,
Martin
