But You Said That Last Summer!
The sun’s been shining, the BBQ’s been fired up, and the Women’s Euros are in full flow. We LOVE summer!
And for many of you, summer holidays will soon be upon you and your team.
I want you to make a pledge this summer: make sure you have a break. A PROPER break. Everyone needs to recharge their batteries; especially business owners who are affected by the entrepreneurs’ curse of feeling they have to work 24/7.
You don’t. But you do need to PLAN your time out.
Mrs N has long since finalised our 9-week colour-coded spreadsheet, our diaries are blocked out, we’ve made plans. It’s quite a work of art.
Have you done the same in your business and home life (because as business owners, they’re intrinsically linked)?
Answer me honestly, how many of these sound familiar to your Summer?
The dates everyone else can make for that summer gathering or trip away with friends clash with your diary, because you’ve not blocked time out and have work commitments.
The lack of holiday planning means you pay triple the price that you’d budgeted for.
Your last day in the office turns into Armageddon, rushing around like a headless chicken.
Your ‘Out of Office’ asserts you won’t be checking emails….
But you check emails every hour of every day of your holiday.
You leave Bob in charge, but you call in and interrupt him at least once a day to ‘check-in’.
Your travel companions/family get frustrated that you’re constantly stuck in the shade on your own. You blame the heat, but it’s really because you can see your screen better.
You have a life-changing lightbulb moment…
But you don’t do anything about it when you return because you’re ‘too busy’ playing catch-up.
You promise yourself it won’t be like this next year.
But you said that last year . . .
Don’t worry, you’re not alone.
But wouldn’t it be nice to STOP repeating this time and time again, every single summer?
It’s not rocket science; but it does take focus, discipline, planning, and guidance (because we’re not superhuman).
If you’ve not yet started, take action THIS WEEK because I don’t want you repeating the same this year, and the next, and the next….

Martin
