Are you playing YOUR game, or someone else’s?
The kids got The Game of Life for Christmas, and we’ve been playing it ever since.
It’s changed a little since our time (gone are the plastic buildings and mountains to drive over) but the concept is the same; choose your path you want to live:
- A career to get paid sooner, or a college path to get a higher-paying job?
- Have kids? Pets?
- Go to night school?
- Purchase properties?
- Take the risky road and gamble over earning or loosing high stakes.
- What retirement will you choose?
There’s unexpected surprises and challenges along the way and the player with the most money wins the game.
And it’s just like business.
You will have heard me say many times before that:
“Business is a numbers game, played by a team.”
But, unlike other games, to win in business is actually quite simple.
In business YOU get to make up the rules of YOUR game.
YOU get to set the systems that your team play.
YOU get to design and create a winning strategy; accompanying tactics to deliver your strategy.
YOU get to determine who plays for your team, what they do in that position, what good looks like and how they can improve by doing some stuff and not doing others.
See here is the BIG thing in business – you get to play whatever game you want and the competition has NO idea what you do, how you do it, why you do it, when or where you do it. There are NO rules apart from the ones you set.
Most of you reading this don’t go to that level. I’m sure you’re experts in delivering your product or service, but business has been changing, and the new order is that of the professional businessperson.
Every village, town, city, and country now have lots and lots of competition and having the best product or service is no longer the winning formula – playing the best game is.
- What would happen if you knew the rules so well that you could manipulate them to suit your purpose?
- What if you could learn how to observe what was going on around you and write the rule book yourself?
- Surely that would give you the absolute advantage.
- Surely that would show you the route to winning the game – on your terms.
If you are not winning at your business when you can set up everything the way you want to then it’s time maybe to join another team and play their game or…
Be brave and create the business and the rules that give you the best chance to win because it is a Game Changer.
It is your choice…

Martin
