The ONE thing I learned from the Mountainside
A few days ago, I saw that it was National Climb A Mountain Day, which ignited some memories of one of the most incredible adventures Mrs N and I have ever embarked on – climbing Everest Base Camp.
I soon realised that this National Day was actually a metaphor about life:
Goal setting…
Planning…
Facing obstacles…
Fear of failure…
Perseverance and dedication…
Things that, as business owners, we face every day! We need to:
Get up…
Show up…
Lead & guide…
Move past obstacles…
And learn along the way.
And if there is ONE thing that I’ve learned along the way in both my business journey and my Everest Base Camp journey, is that the journey is much nicer with a great team, whereas on your own its lonely, cold, and pretty damn scary!
So, however experienced you are as a business owner (or mountain climber!), remember to:
- Clearly set out your vision and goals.
- Make sure you and your team are all aligned on the same Path.
- Ensure everyone has the tools they need to do their job.
- Take in the scenery along the way to acknowledge and learn from those mistakes (because we all make them).
- Never be afraid of change, we need to make necessary adjustments and change course if something isn’t quite working.
And finally, always celebrate as a team the views from the top.
