I Have A Dream
Today is Martin Luther King Day, a federal holiday that celebrates the life and achievements of the American civil rights leader. His most famous address, I Have A Dream, was not part of his prepared speech; it was improvised thanks to a prompt cry from a member of the crowd: “Tell them about the dream, Martin.”
You may recall a blog of mine – The Pink Mini – where I asked: “what do you want?”. This questions always stumps or confuses business owners because it’s not about your drawings/earnings from your business, it’s what YOU want to have, want to do, want to be this year that the big round number should provide for?
It seems fitting to repeat my message and ask you – as a business owner and as an individual – to think about what you want in 2019:
- things you want to achieve
- things you may want to purchase
- places you may want to go or a new location you may want to move to
- skills you may want to acquire
- savings you want to secure for your future
Without the understanding and clarity of what these things, places, skills and savings are, there is little chance of you achieving them.
BUT..if your list above was clear, time-bound and costed out, then you know EXACTLY what your business needs to pay you and when.
Once this is clear, you can then develop a plan to execute to achieve it.
Imagine having the following:
I want to do ……
I want to have ……
I want to become…
To achieve this, I will need to earn X by Y, and to do that here is my plan ….
Now all I need to do is execute it.
How would that make you feel and what do you think the chances are you would achieve most if not all of it?
Good luck for 2019 as if you have not approached it this way yet, luck may be your only strategy.
