Go Back to your Future
Yes, everyone is jumping on the hover board and celebrating Back to the Future Day, the date Marty and Doc crashed the future. And why not. It’s nostalgic and it’s intriguing seeing which predictions the film makers got right: from silent cars, wearable tech, flats screens and smartglasses, through to cashless payment of taxi services and tablets.
Ok, we don’t (yet) have flying cars, computer-controlled ovens, pizza hydrators or selfie-taking fridges. And whilst today gives us the perfect excuse to reminisce over our big 80’s hair styles, fluorescent clothes, and crank up Madonna on Spotify, it does give us something more important:
Inspiration to look forward.
As entrepreneurs/business owners, we can often be erratic, get easily bored, move onto the next thing, work around the clock, get distracted with shiny new things, love tight deadlines but don’t always finish projects, get stuck in to fix a problem, know that we can do it better than everyone else and, worst of all, we fall in and out of love with our business all the time.
So, my Back to the Future challenge to you today is to take 15 minutes out over a Pepsi, blast Huey Lewis’s “The Power of Love” out of your speakers, and simply remember WHY you were brave enough to stand out from the crowd, challenge the status quo, stick your neck on the line and set-up your own business in the first place.
Now look forward and see how far you’ve come. Ok, you may have a way to go, but keep hold of that feeling and keep moving forward to realise your dreams and goals that drive you on every day.
“Wait a minute. Wait a minute Doc, uh, are you telling me you built a time machine … out of a DeLorean?” — Marty McFly
“The way I see it, if you’re going to build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?” — Doc
