Is the problem the REAL problem?
We’re seeing more restrictions easing and likely more to come over the following weeks. Everyone has been affected and over the last 13 weeks busily planning their business whilst balancing home life. We’re now entering the exciting stage of ‘starting’ again and it’s going to feel a little like creating a new business; your business won’t necessarily be new but the processes, financing, environment around you have likely changed.
There’s a BIG lesson and a reminder for everyone this week that separates those businesses that successfully grow and those that will always remain stagnant.
Every single day we’re faced with problems, and most people only look at what’s directly in front them. This means they’re being reactive day in, day out and will never move their business on because of all these constant interruptions to their day, and blockers to their business.
However, those successful businesses that grow look for that one BIG problem that solves A LOT and gets their business moving forward.
There’re only one or two root problems but if you’re stuck right now, then either you don’t know you have a problem, or maybe you do but you have NO IDEA what the problem is so you cannot solve it.
If you’re doing the same things over and over again, then you’ll be getting the same results over and over again. But can you imagine if you could look beyond the day-to-day problems staring you directly in the face, and pinpoint and solve that one problem that would unblock your entire business?
Many of you have heard my “Conker Tree” analogy where too many business owners are so busy sweeping the fallen conkers and leaves, that they never stop and think about chopping the tree down! (If you’ve not read that, or need a refresher, read the full story here, a real example from my CEO days).
It’s paramount to spend some time this week to answer honestly where you are right now, and to take a step back away from all those reactive problems staring you right in the face and start to see where that one big problem is lurking.
You might not like the answer, but at least once you know it, you can start to fix that, which will ultimately fix a lot of problems in one go. And get you back on track and moving forwards.
