Organised by club sponsors Amazon #1 bestselling book ‘I don’t work Fridays’
Amazon #1 bestselling book and business I don’t work Fridays by husband-and-wife team Martin and Jacki Norbury held its second 4x4 Charity Challenge Tournament and Family Fun Day on 1st June 2025, at Yateley Manor School, raising £6,000 for Farnborough Sands, the stillborn and neonatal death society, and two community sports clubs they sponsor: Camberley Town Youth Football Club and Yateley Silverbacks Basketball Club.
110 juniors participated in the 4x4 Charity Challenge where Camberley Town Youth Football Club took on Yateley Silverbacks Basketball Club in four age groups (U8s/10s, U12s, U14s and U16s), in four sports: football, basketball, dodgeball, Tug of War (for the older groups) and Laser Run for the younger groups, organised by Tristan Morris of Pentathlon GB, South & Southeast.
The overall winning team this year was Yateley Silverbacks Basketball Club with the trophy presented to Club Founder and Chairman Pete Daines, making it one win for each club.
Martin Norbury, author of I don’t work Fridays commented:
“Last year’s event was such a success that we had huge demand to run another 4x4 this year. We were once again overwhelmed by the level of generosity and support from not only all those children and parents involved, but our network of business owners who made substantial donations online and to the raffle.”
“When we lost our daughter Louise at birth, Jacki and I were unable to be a parent to her like we had imagined and planned, so volunteering our time feels like a way of actively keeping her memory alive. Being able to support other families via Farnborough Sands, who may find themselves in such an unimaginable and heartbreaking situation, is so important to us.”
“Both Camberley Town Youth FC and Yateley Silverbacks do so much for our local community, not only giving them an outlet to have fun, but also teaching them valuable life skills, as well as football and basketball development. So, we know this money will be well invested by each club.”
James Mepham, Farnborough Sands, commented:
“We cannot thank I don’t work Fridays enough for making this happen; it was a great success again, and an incredible amount of money raised which will help local bereaved families. As well as raising money, it’s just as important that people who didn’t know what Sands do, now understand the support available after baby loss. The funds raised will create memory boxes for families, run support evenings for bereaved families, and support our memorial events like the Wave of Light. Lastly, there are improvements we would like to make to the baby garden to keep it maintained and enjoyable for our families.”
Pete Daines, Chairman of Yateley Silverbacks, commented:
“It was a fantastic day for the clubs and the charity; with a fun atmosphere, great sporting competition, and seeing children trying out new sports. The monies raised will go a long way in helping hundreds of basketball players, but more importantly all those bereaved parents that Farnborough Sands support.”
“We’re so grateful for our share of the proceeds; it’s an expensive business running a club with twelve teams, so the money we receive will be put towards new kits, upgrading equipment, and helping towards entry fees and coach development.”
Barrie Funnell, Chairman of Camberley Town Youth Football Club, said:
“As we continue to raise funds for our 50k for 50 years at Camberley Town Youth FC, it’s fantastic that Jacki and the team were able to deliver another superb 4x4 event; not only helping us but another great local sports club, as well as the charity Sands that is dear to us.”
