Impossible? Scale Lessons from Klopp
Even if you’re not a football fan, it’s unlikely you’ll have avoided the Champions League news last week surrounding English Clubs Liverpool and Tottenham.
One of the greatest comebacks in history to beat Messi and his Barcelona team-mates 4-0 at Anfield, Liverpool.
Tottenham’s second-half hat-trick stuns players and knocks out Ajax.
Players were in tears, pundits were going crazy, managers were exuberantly swearing live on TV, the opposition left stunned.
Whilst I could gush about my team Liverpool, this week is a simple reminder on mindset.
Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp’s pre-match talk went like this:
“I told the boys before it was impossible” …
Certainly honest; everyone else had written them off. Was it motivational?
Well, he followed it up with:
“but because it’s you boys, we have a chance.”
What ensued was a team fully aware of their task ahead, but one where tactics were replaced by heart and desire.
One of our Scale Maxims (inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s quote) is: I’m Possible. Not Impossible.
My passions in life are looking for learning and looking at different ways of doing things (it’s much easier when you’re not emotionally linked to a business, and not tied up in the day-to-day that you can’t think past lunch time).
But, if I had a pound every time a business owner responded with “no, that won’t work…can’t work…too complicated…impossible to change…” then I wouldn’t be working Mondays, Tuesdays, (you get the gist) either!
Next time you are thinking this or say it out loud to your team or partner, please think again with an open mind and with desire.
It’ll be one of the most liberating and productive mind-shifts you’ll ever make.
If there’s one thing I urge you to do this week, it’s to read this and take action because this will help release YOU from your business and focus on the next phase.
