You’ll never get bigger than ‘average’
A Swiss think tank has just predicted that robots will displace 75 million jobs globally by 2022 but will create 133 million new ones. A “net positive”.
It went as far as saying that advances in AI and computing would free up workers for new tasks.
Regardless of whether tasks will be performed by humans, machines or algorithms in the future, your business can only grow if you have the processes and disciplines in place to create a scalable model.
It’s our experience from working with businesses across 65+ different industry sectors, that to grow a business you need to let the system deliver the excellent result – not the people.
Many businesses today are able to survive on talent and talent alone, but all they can ever do is just survive.
You may be doing a good job…
Have a reasonably good reputation in your marketplace …
Get by in a variety of disciplines …
Are generally a good company to use (from a customer’s perspective) …
But if this is you, then you will never get bigger than ‘average’.
You’ll exist on fumes from your cash flow, continue to run around like crazy tending to customer whims, and spend a lot of time wrestling with your bottom line.
To grow a business successfully you need to let the system deliver the excellent result – not the people:
- You need to set up goals and targets
- Have a unified vision
- With measurements in place
- And a way of improvement by learning lessons
- With an exit plan that is more than simply, ‘more of the same’.
Something to really think (honestly) about this week – and identify any gaps in your business.
