Are You Doing It Wrong? (Scale Lessons from Ted Lasso)
We’ve just binge watched Ted Lasso; a TV comedy about a small-time American Football coach (Ted) who is hired to coach one of England’s Premiership football clubs, despite having no experience of the game.
Not only is it a light-hearted break, it’s a real insight into coaching, leadership, team dynamics, values, and human nature in general.
In one episode, Ted shared:
“Hey, takin’ on a challenge is a lot like ridin’ a horse. If you’re comfortable while you’re doin’ it, you’re probably doin’ it wrong.”
It’s very much like setting up and running a business; there’ll always be challenges and it’s never an easy ride.
One of our Maxims is:
“Be Comfortable with the Uncomfortable”
So, this week I want you to STOP delaying all those activities, all those things on your To Do List that you’ve been putting off and delaying.
And START doing those Uncomfortable things like:
- Getting your head around those numbers
- Speaking to a team member about performance
- Negotiating with your supplier
- Speaking with that customer
- Making that decision
- Taking that first step
- Or taking that next big step
We know first-hand that the advice that scares you the most is the best advice you can get.
So, get comfortable with the uncomfortable, you’ll be surprised by the immediate results it has on YOU and on your business.

Martin
PS if you still don’t believe me, we put into practice what we preach. Here’s some words from a business owner we’ve worked with, and who continues to push those uncomfortable boundaries to take their business to that next level…
“I know that I can be 100% honest with Martin and he is 100% honest with me. Nobody wants a mentor who doesn’t challenge you!” – Emma
